Primus guitarist Larry LaLonde has recently been affected by the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles, losing his home in the process. The musician shared the heartbreaking news with his followers on Instagram, posting a photo of his charred property and revealing that he had been in the process of remodeling the house before disaster struck.
“Well, we were bouncing around different ideas to remodel our home, but ultimately the Palisades fire decided on a more ‘open’ floor plan,” LaLonde wrote. “My mind is still trying to convince me this whole thing is real. As the losses in this fire trickle into my brain, it feels like being hit with a bag of rocks over and over, but the people around us make me feel like the luckiest mother f*cker on the planet.”
Despite the overwhelming loss, LaLonde expressed gratitude for the support he has received, saying, “I don’t know how we could mentally survive this without the support of some amazing friends. Unfortunately this is a situation almost everyone in this town is in. Many unknowns here for now…”
Les Claypool, the frontman of Primus and a close friend of LaLonde’s, shared the photo on his own Instagram with a heartfelt message. “All that is left of our good friend Ler Lalonde’s home. When Mother Nature gets up on her hind legs, it can be brutal. My heart hurts for him and his family,” Claypool wrote, acknowledging the pain his friend is enduring.
LaLonde is not the only one affected by the fires. Many other prominent figures in the rock community have been forced to evacuate as the flames spread. Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee, Anthrax’s Scott Ian, and blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa are just a few of the musicians who have been impacted.
“We were evacuated last night. The fire is 0% contained. Praying for a miracle,” Lee’s wife, Brittany Furlan, wrote in an Instagram story. Meanwhile, Scott Ian shared his appreciation for first responders, posting, “Sending all our love to the men and women of the Los Angeles Fire Department. Over and over you risk your lives to save ours and I can’t thank you enough. Tonight is going to be a hellish night for so many. Stay safe my friends, that’s all that matters. Thank you to everyone that has been reaching out – Pearl, Revel, Grizzly and I evacuated and we’re safe.”
As the community rallies around those affected, the toll of the fires continues to weigh heavily on many, leaving residents and musicians alike facing an uncertain future.
