In a recent interview with Guitarist, former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley addressed the long-standing misconceptions surrounding his departures from the iconic rock band.
“Well, a lot of the misconceptions were created by Paul [Stanley] and Gene [Simmons],” Frehley shared. “They still say in interviews that they fired me, but I was never fired from KISS. I hate when I hear that.”
Frehley clarified further, explaining, “They say I was fired both times, but I quit both times—once in 1982 and again in 2002. They didn’t want me to leave. The first time I quit, Paul came to my door and took me out to lunch, trying to change my mind, but by then, I had already made up my decision.”
His remarks clear up decades of rumors, offering insight into his personal journey and the reasons behind his exits from KISS.
Several factors played a role in both KISS’s evolution as a band and Frehley’s personal decision to step away from the group during key moments in its history.
