In an exclusive interview with Mojo magazine, QUEEN guitarist Brian May revealed that there might be a chance for the band to release fresh material. “I think it could happen,” May stated. He added, “Both Roger [Taylor, QUEEN drummer] and I are always writing and coming up with ideas, experimenting in our studios. Right now, I might have the beginnings of a QUEEN song right in front of me. The real question is whether the idea matures into something more substantial. It’s all about whether that initial spark can grow.”
This news comes on the heels of similar sentiments shared by drummer Roger Taylor last October. In an interview with Uncut magazine, Taylor expressed optimism about new music from QUEEN: “I think we might,” he said. “Brian and I were just talking the other day, and we both agreed that if we feel we’ve got some great material, why not?” He emphasized that despite their years in the industry, the band can still perform and create new music. “We can still play. We can still sing. So I don’t see why not,” he added.
In a November 2022 interview with Variety, May was asked about the possibility of him, Taylor, and singer Adam Lambert recording new music together. He replied cautiously, stating, “It hasn’t happened yet, but we do bring it up now and then. Generally, when we’re together, the live show takes up all our energy. There’s just not enough time to think about studio work. We feel like the live shows are what the audience really wants. And when we’re not touring, Adam is focusing on his solo career.” However, he remained open to the idea, concluding, “I’m not saying it couldn’t happen.”
