TOTO guitarist Steve Lukather has recently addressed speculation about his role in unreleased Van Halen recordings. On March 15, he took to Instagram to clear up the confusion.
“For the record: Ever since Alex Van Halen dropped some we were gonna work together, I think there is a huge misunderstanding,” Lukather began. “I will NOT EVER play a guitar note on a VH song ever!”
He elaborated, explaining, “Al asked me to help him go through a ton of unfinished recordings of Al and Ed writing and recording that never saw the light of day. As of now that’s all I got.”
Lukather went on to emphasize that the rumors about him playing on the Van Halen tracks were unfounded, stating, “The fact that ANYONE would think for even a second that I would play anything on this is ridiculous. I have too much love and respect for that and… I play nothing like Ed… more as a co-producer or something. I am honored Al would ask me though.”
This statement came after reports from De Telegraaf that Lukather would be playing guitar on unfinished Van Halen tracks. However, Lukather has clarified that the project, still in development with Alex Van Halen, is unlikely to feature his guitar playing, though he may assist in a different capacity.
