Former Ozzy Osbourne bassist Rudy Sarzo has revealed new details about Black Sabbath’s final show, and why it’s shaping up to be more than just a farewell.
Speaking with Z93 The Rock Station, Sarzo shared his thoughts on the significance of the upcoming event and the honor of being involved.
“Not only myself but also Jake E. Lee has been invited to participate [in Black Sabbath’s final show], which is great because this will be a celebration of Ozzy’s solo career, not just Black Sabbath,” Sarzo said. “My connection with that, I as far as I see on the poster, I am the only member of the era of that band with Randy Rhoads, Tommy Aldridge, and Ozzy. I will be the representative of that, and to me, that is an honor beyond anything that I can describe.”
A Celebration of Ozzy and Metal’s Origins
For Sarzo, the event isn’t just about one band—it’s about the legacy of an entire genre.
“The way I look at it is the meeting of the tribes. The heavy metal tribes gathering to pay tribute to the architects of the music that we play, the people who invented it,” he continued.
Sarzo also reflected on how other iconic artists are choosing to exit the stage—often without saying anything at all.
“I don’t know if you have noticed, but many artists lately have just been fading out,” Sarzo explained. “You don’t even know whether they’re retired or not. But they really are, and they’re just not announcing it. And I think that especially for a band like Black Sabbath, that came in so strong into the pages of music history with what they created. You can’t just fade out. You got to throw the biggest event.”
With Sarzo and Jake E. Lee on board, fans can expect the final Black Sabbath performance to be both a powerful tribute and a historic reunion—celebrating not just the band’s legacy, but the birth of heavy metal itself.
