In a candid interview with Waste Some Time With Jason Green, Stephen Pearcy shared his thoughts on the long-awaited reunion with his RATT bandmate Warren DeMartini, but he also revealed why including bassist Juan Croucier and drummer Bobby Blotzer in the mix would be far more complicated than fans might expect.
Pearcy, who has recently reunited with DeMartini for select spring and summer shows, explained that although he had approached Warren about collaborating a few years ago, nothing materialized at the time. However, an opportunity arose when a promoter from the M3 Rock Festival reached out with the idea of reuniting Pearcy and DeMartini for a special headlining performance. “I’m in. Let’s see if we can make this happen,” Pearcy said about the reunion, which culminated in their first show together on April 5 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut.
While Pearcy and DeMartini’s performance was a success, he made it clear that reuniting with former members of RATT, specifically Croucier and Blotzer, would not be as simple. “People are already going, ‘Oh, bring back the other guys.’ Well, I don’t really think they know how complicated it is or it would be,” Pearcy stated. He emphasized that the reunion was never about business but about honoring the music they created with DeMartini.
Pearcy continued, explaining that the logistics and dynamics of bringing back Croucier and Blotzer were just too difficult to work through. “It took seven years for Warren and I to play together again… Now we’re talking about writing new music. So what the f*ck?” Pearcy quipped, underscoring the complexities that would arise if Croucier and Blotzer were involved.
Despite the ongoing interest in a full RATT reunion, Pearcy admitted that the reunion with DeMartini felt natural and easy, something he hadn’t expected after so many years apart. “It’s still the same as it was in ‘85, ‘86 with Warren up there,” he said, reminiscing about their chemistry. “We were able to sit there and chit-chat and didn’t give a f*ck on stage.”
While fans are eager for a more comprehensive RATT reunion, Pearcy’s stance is clear: the reunion with DeMartini is about the music and legacy, not forcing a situation that might not work. The absence of Juan Croucier and Blotzer, he explained, is part of the reason why the reunion with DeMartini has been so successful.
Looking ahead, Pearcy expressed excitement for future shows but also acknowledged the uncertainty of the band’s future. “We’re gonna entertain some more shows. It’s by overwhelming demand. This might be it, the last you’ll see of RATT, for all I know,” he said, leaving fans wondering what the future holds.
While the reunion with DeMartini may not include Croucier and Blotzer, it’s clear that Pearcy is enjoying this chapter of his career and is excited about what lies ahead for him and his longtime bandmate.
