In a new Rolling Stone interview, Sammy Hagar isn’t holding back when it comes to his rocky relationship with Alex Van Halen.
Discussing the ongoing tension between them, Hagar suggested that jealousy might be fueling Alex’s animosity—specifically over the fact that Hagar, along with bassist Mike Anthony and David Lee Roth, are still performing Van Halen’s music.
Hagar said he believes Alex may resent not being able to do the same.
When the interviewer pointed out that Alex has suffered major personal setbacks—including the loss of his brother Eddie Van Halen and ongoing health issues—Hagar didn’t dispute it.
“Yeah, I’d say so. And I’m okay with it. Al, you’re fine. Just leave me alone. I’ll leave you alone. Everything’s good. I’m making you money, by the way, Al. I’m out there selling Van Halen records and keeping the name alive, keeping the music alive.”
The statement adds another layer to the already complicated relationship between former Van Halen bandmates. While Hagar continues to perform and promote the band’s legacy, Alex Van Halen has remained out of the public eye, with fans speculating over whether a reconciliation or tribute project is even possible.
