Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider recently stirred controversy on social media after making candid remarks about Black Sabbath’s 1971 album Master of Reality — a record many fans consider untouchable. But in the wake of Ozzy Osbourne’s death on July 22nd, Snider is setting the record straight.
It Started with a Tweet
Responding to a fan on X (formerly Twitter) who called Master of Reality a “10/10, no-skip album,” Snider didn’t hold back:
“Stop the presses. I’m a day-one Black Sabbath diehard and I LOVE this album. One of my faves. But 10 out of 10!?
Embryo? Orchid? Solitude? Skip, skip, skip!”
Snider was referring to the short instrumental tracks on the record, which he felt slowed the momentum of an otherwise powerful album.
Fans React — and So Does Snider
With tensions already high due to the recent passing of Ozzy Osbourne, some fans interpreted Snider’s remarks as disrespectful. The backlash prompted him to clarify:
“And I’m not dissing Ozzy… because he’s not singing!”
Snider emphasized that his critique was aimed at the album’s structure — not the legendary frontman’s performance.
Snider on Sabbath with Dio: “I LOVED It!”
The conversation then expanded, with one fan asking Snider to weigh in on the long-standing debate over the Ronnie James Dio era of Sabbath.
Snider’s answer was simple and direct:
“I LOVED Sabbath with Dio!!!”
His statement helped calm the storm, as fans appreciated his support for both major eras of the band.
A Heartfelt Tribute to Ozzy’s Final Performance
Weeks before Ozzy’s passing, Snider also commented on Black Sabbath’s Back to the Beginning farewell concert — which marked Ozzy’s final public appearance.
“Ozzy Osbourne was a little tough to watch,” Snider wrote. “It was great but heartbreaking on so many levels. ‘Mama I’m Coming Home’ was tough to get through. For us (the audience) AND Ozzy.”
He added a note of compassion:
“Please don’t read anything negative into what I said. I was just sharing my own emotions with you.
It should never have to end if we don’t want it to… but sadly gravity always wins.”
