As the music world continues to reel from the death of Ozzy Osbourne, heavy metal titans Metallica have released a heartfelt tribute, remembering him not just as a musical legend, but as a mentor and lifelong friend.

Ozzy passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at age 76. Within hours, Metallica shared an emotional message on their official Instagram page, reflecting on his unmatched influence on their band and the entire heavy metal genre.

“It’s impossible to put into words what Ozzy Osbourne has meant to Metallica. Hero, icon, pioneer, inspiration, mentor, and, most of all, friend are a few that come to mind.”

“Ozzy and Sharon believed in us and transformed our lives and careers. He taught us how to play in the big leagues while at the same time being warm, welcoming, engaging, and all around brilliant.”

The tribute wasn’t just emotional — it was personal. Metallica owes part of their early success to Ozzy, who gave the band one of their first big breaks. In 1986, during the Ultimate Sin Tour, Ozzy took Metallica on the road as his supporting act, introducing their thrash metal sound to massive mainstream audiences.
