Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain has offered fans an update on the band’s future recording plans — and while nothing is confirmed, there’s still room for optimism.
Speaking on Waste Some Time with Jason Green, McBrain reflected on his current relationship with Iron Maiden and whether a new album might be on the horizon.
“No Plans Yet” — But That Could Change
When asked about the possibility of returning to the studio with the band, McBrain said there are currently no concrete plans but hinted that things could change.
“First of all, there’s no plans to make a new album as yet,” McBrain said. “That could change. So if that’s the case, maybe I’ll be asked to do a couple of songs.”
While the comment leaves fans waiting for official confirmation, McBrain’s tone reflected cautious optimism about participating in future studio sessions.
A New Chapter After Decades on the Road
The legendary drummer’s remarks come during a major transition in his career. After over 40 years behind the kit for Iron Maiden, McBrain retired from live touring in December 2024, marking the end of an era for one of metal’s most iconic lineups.
His decision followed a difficult recovery period after suffering a stroke in January 2023, which left him partially paralyzed. The health scare forced McBrain to reassess the physical demands of Iron Maiden’s intense global tours.
“I’m still part of the family,” McBrain emphasized. “I do a lot of work with the fan club, and I’m going out and doing still Iron Maiden-related stuff.”
Despite stepping away from the stage, McBrain remains closely tied to the band, maintaining an active role in the Iron Maiden community and related projects.
What’s Next for Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden’s most recent studio album, Senjutsu (2021), was met with critical acclaim and supported by a world tour blending new material with classic hits.
With McBrain’s continued involvement and the band’s long tradition of surprise announcements, fans remain hopeful that new music could emerge — even if timelines are uncertain.
