Slash has set the record straight about the viral moment that occurred during Guns N’ Roses’ October 18 concert at Estadio Huracán in Buenos Aires, Argentina, when Axl Rose appeared visibly frustrated during “Welcome to the Jungle.”
The frontman had thrown his microphone toward drummer Isaac Carpenter’s kit and stormed off stage — an act that immediately sparked speculation among fans about possible tension within the band.
But in a new interview on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, Slash explained that the incident had nothing to do with personal conflict or the band’s new drummer.
“Oh, that whole thing, God, it got so blown out of proportion,” Slash said. “There was something messed up in Axl’s in-ear mix — he could only hear the drums, and that was it. It was the first song, and he was trying to communicate that to the engineers. They just didn’t know what the hell he was talking about.”
🎸 “It Got Blown Out of Proportion”
Slash clarified that Axl’s frustration was aimed at the sound engineers, not the drummer.
“He was pointing out that it’s the drums — not something else. That’s what he was trying to convey,” Slash continued. “But it got really blown out of proportion. Jesus. People thought it had something to do with Isaac because it was directed at the kit, but it wasn’t about Isaac.”
The guitarist added that the issue was resolved quickly and the band continued the show without further incident.
🥁 Slash Praises New Drummer Isaac Carpenter
Despite the online rumors, Slash had nothing but praise for the band’s newest member, Isaac Carpenter, who joined Guns N’ Roses earlier this year.
“Isaac’s killer. It’s been great,” Slash said. “From the first day he came in to audition, he’s been amazing. We auditioned six or seven guys — all well-known players — and Isaac was always one of the top guys. He just fit right in.”
Carpenter, known for his work with AWOLNATION and The Exies, has been widely praised by fans for his high-energy drumming style and chemistry with the band.
🔥 The Incident and the Tour
The microphone-throwing moment occurred immediately after “Welcome to the Jungle” — the opening song of the Argentina show. Fans in attendance captured the clip on video, which quickly went viral online.
The Buenos Aires concert is part of Guns N’ Roses’ ongoing 2025 world tour, marking a pivotal year for the band as they continue performing with their updated lineup.
While some fans initially worried the moment signaled internal issues, Slash’s clarification makes it clear — it was simply a technical glitch, not a meltdown.
