Within only six years, hard rock maestro Axel Rudi Pell released four albums that were once again a manifestation of his brillant finger work and his ability to write magical songs. Even though the German guitar legend has been rocking the metal scene since the late 80s, he never felt the need to show off his skills by exaggerating speed or technical complexity and always sticked to one simple rule: Write memorable tracks filled with intense melodies and timeless heavy metal spirit.
And sometimes the ideas to these songs come up in the weirdest situations – Metal Wani’s Anne Catherine Swallow spoke to the master of strings, who instantly displayed a great sense of humour and discussed his new album “Game Of Sins”, why his inspiration constantly flows, his take on how guitar players are more focused on technical wankery than real songwriting principles, his take on bands using 7 or 8 string guitars and why few bands still seem to be able to handle a (nine strings) guitar properly. He also discusses the death of Lemmy Kilmister and his experience with Motorhead frontman.
