For more than twenty years, the Canadian war machine Kataklysm has been fighting its way through the death metal scene, combining raging, yet extremely sharp sound with intelligent lyrics and an eternal underdog spirit. Their latest release „Of Ghosts And Gods“ once again proved that their Northern Hyperblast style will never lose its piercing force and after multiple festival dates in 2015, Kataklysm are finally back to destroy European territories with a massive, six week long headline tour.
In Hamburg, Metal Wani’s Anne Catherine had the chance to meet up with their drum berserker, the Montreal-based Oli Beaudoin, who has only joined the band in 2012, but managed to convince the fans of his mindblowing abilities within just a few months. In this interview, he tells us about the life on the road with the guys from SepticFlesh and Aborted, explains why he is much more concerned about the impact of religion on this world, than the impact of science, and how speechless it leaves him, when he meets fans who felt inspired to change their views on life because of Kataklysm. Nevertheless he never felt like a „rock star“ and with great enthusiasm he speaks of the upcoming Ex Deo album, the band’s new beer brand and barbecue sauce and why it can spice up even the worst catering food on tour. And if you ever wondered how Oli believes that the world will come to an end – this is the right place to find out.
