The last few years have seen many notable thrash metal bands from around the world like Exodus, Megadeth, Slayer, Tankard and Anthrax release new albums, as well as upcoming material from other classic acts of the genre such as Death Angel. For now though, the focus is on German thrash band Destruction, one of the “Teutonic big 4” of the genre alongside Kreator, Sodom and the aforementioned Tankard. Their release this year, titled ‘Under Attack’ (Click Here To Read Our Review), is the group’s newest studio release since 2012’s ‘Spiritual Genocide’.
Metal Wani’s Editor In Chief Owais ‘Vitek’ Nabi had a chat with Marcel Schmier of German Thrash Legends DESTRUCTION. Schmier discusses upcoming studio album “Under Attack”, songwriting approach, musical direction, internet trolls and hatred among metalheads. Schmier also talks about using multiple studios, 3 year songwriting cycle, drummer Vaaver‘s influences & collection of riffs with lead guitarist Mike Sifringer.
Schmier also throws light on why rock n roll is dead, bands using live samples on stage, his opinion on Axl Rose joining AC/DC & why ACCEPT‘s Mark Tornillo is the perfect fit for AC/DC. Destruction will be touring Europe later this year with Flotsam & Jetsam, Nervosa.
