Ahead of the opening of the Winters Gate down under, Insomnium vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen had a chat with Metal Wani’s Jake Patton to discuss the upcoming tour and the bands return to Australian shores.
They discuss the band’s first time in Australia with The Haunted and the band’s expectations of the crowd for that tour, what their expectations are for this coming tour, the inclusion of Jani Liimatainen as a replacement for Ville Friiman on this tour, and the difficulties in managing the band members conflicting schedules for these tours.
They also talk about the latest album, Winters Gate and how the idea of making a one song album was born; how the album is being received; and how the band is looking toward the future to try and create an album to top this one.
They touch on Niilo’s passion for writing and how his award winning short story Talven Portti provided the framework for Winters Gate, how his writing is injected into the bands lyrics, and the possibility of future projects that may arise in this space.
