Metal Wani’s Editor In Chief Owais ‘Vitek’ Nabi and Tanushree Chatterjee had a chat with guitar legend Yngwie Malmsteen.
He discusses the 4 decades long journey, upcoming gig in London after more than a decade, fan expectations, why it took many years in the making in-order to return to the UK, live response to ongoing “The World On Fire” touring cycle and his take on venues around the world where audience reciprocates most of his style of music.
He talks about The Generation Axe Tour with Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, his opinion on whether the current generation of rock and metal guitar players will ever produce another guitar virtuoso in the same league as himself & Steve Vai, why guitar playing is a timeless thing, whether he still follows the mantra ‘less is not more, more is more’ and he takes us back to the time when he did his first guitar flip.
He also talks about why he has no plans to collaborate with musicians such as Jeff Scott, Joe Lyn Turner and Tim “Ripper” Owens in the future, why there’s a feeling of disconnect when someone else sings his songs, finding inspiration for writing lyrics, his opinion on why guitar playing is much more than speed and technical wizardry and his opinion on plenty of underground musicians writing good, memorable songs.
In the end, he throws light on the future plans, touring the United States in the fall, followed by Asia and Europe in the spring, his experience of playing in India for the first time, his take on illegal downloads and album leaking weeks before the release date and whether there’s any solution to this problem & much more.
