Myrath, VuuR and Epica, there is no better way to discover these bands than their live show. The Tunisian band Myrath, brought a crowd of hundreds together. With a nice introduction of the oriental touch including a belly dancer on stage, they immediately got our attention. A successful entrance under white and blue lights! They continued with two songs from their last album ‘Legacy’, oriental metal at its best. The guitars brought a very original, funky touch while the drums really supported the singing. While their last song was coming, Zaher Zorgati, the lead singer spoke very good Spanish explaining that Myrath will be back in Madrid in 2018 for a headliner tour and finished the night by getting the crowd jumping.
Next up, Anneke Van Giersbergen is on top of VuuR, but live that night, you really felt that these guys were really happy to play on stage, and share their music. Regarding the instrumental parts, live I would not say VuuR is a prog band, they were melodic and warm but heavy and kinda epic. There was no doubt on Anneke’s vocals quality, but ‘Santiago’ and ‘Berlin’ songs were not my taste. Nonetheless, when Anneke sang The Gentle Storm song and on the new one “Helskink”, her voice succeeded in moving ahead on her path, and gave us all goosebumps! VuuR finished indeed on a very epic note.

EPICA entered the stage instilling a dreamy mood on the crowd, a blooming impatience and great pleasure of all those who came. Their light show was perfectly synchronized and the start with “Eidola, immediately followed by “Edge of the Blade” from their last album The Holographic principle was respectful with their band name: epic.
Vocalist, Simone Simons reminded us that the dutchies EPICA have been playing for a while, which meant that when singing on the old ones, e.g. from The Phantom Agony, her voice was more mature. The whole band looked like they enjoyed playing together as much as the crowd enjoyed watching them play!
The encore lasted 45 minute and Simone was grateful towards the audience. They finished with the tracks “Sancta Terra” and continued with their last hit “Beyond the Matrix”, a pure metal-melodic track, during which they really invited people to sing, jump and move along with them during the show: that was awesome to see this packed crowd moving.
Three epic bands played three epic sets to an audience that jumped, sang and enjoyed every moment!
