Phil Anselmo is a perpetually busy man, and off the back of Superjoint and Scour releases in 2017, he is back once again to shower us in Insanity with a new Philip. H. Anselmo and the Illegals album in 2018. Ahead of the launch of the album ‘‘Caught Up In The Gears of Application’’, the man himself took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to Metal Wani’s Jake Patton about the album.
They discuss the musical direction of the new album and the terrifyingly eerie sound that is carried through some of the new songs. They also discuss the lyrical content and where some of these rage manic lyrics originate from, how this record has the relentless spirit of DARK ANGEL’s “Darkness Descends”, SLAYER’s “Reign In Blood” and new band titled En Minor.
Philip also talks about exploring his vocals on this album, why he planned to have ‘three guitar attack’ on this album as compared to single guitar lines by Marzi Montazeri on the debut album, latest Dimevision release, his relationship with RITA HANEY, why it’s a great idea to do an ‘one off tribute gig’ in the honor of Dimebag Darrell.
They also briefly touch on Anselmo’s other band DOWN and what their current plans are before closing out by discussing whether or not Phil believes Metal is getting boring.
