Primordial, Moonsorrow, Der Weg einer Freiheit, and Death the Leveller went on tour and stopped in Hamburg for the last time of the tour. The event started earlier as usual, but the venue Markthalle was full of people anyway, nice!
The guys from the band Death the Leveller opened the evening. I did not know the band before, so I wanted to see a few songs to get an impression of their style of music. I must admit: It is a pity that I arrived that late and missed a bigger part of their performance. If you do not know them, I recommend giving them a chance. It was a short, but quite enjoyable performance for me!
Der Weg einer Freiheit, a black metal band from Germany, performed next. The first thing I must bring up is the light show during their performance. The last time I saw such kind of high quality light show was a long time ago. It was programmed appropriate to the rhythm and mood of the songs as well as the movement of the musicians on stage. This was quite impressive! The set list was good and had a nice suspense curve. The only bad thing about the performance was the sound. It was quite muddy and I think someone who do not know the songs did not hear any nice details of these awesome songwriters, too bad. It was powerful, really powerful. Nevertheless, it was an awesome and really impressive performance of Der Weg einer Freiheit!
After a short break, Moonsorrow went on stage. The number of people reached a peak and it seemed that the most of the crowd came because of Moonsorrow. I must admit that I am not a big fan of Moonsorrow, but so what, I never saw them live and I wanted to see at least a few songs of the guys. The crowd did scream all the time, which was quite nice and created a special atmosphere in the venue. Overall, it was an enjoyable performance of the guys with a nice combination of likable musicians, cool light show, a better sound than before, and nice songs. All in all, it was way better than expected and the audience loved it.
After buying a nice red wine for the next part of the evening, my personal highlight of the day began to play: Primordial. I was quite curious about their show, because they released a new record a few weeks before and it is – in my opinion – a mixture of strange as like as unusual, but cool and powerful songs. It needs some time to grow on you. But back to topic: The package of a minimalistic, but appropriate light show, the crystal-clear sound, a likable front-man, and an awesome performance of the artists was worth it. New songs like “Nail their Tongues” and “Stolen Years” were performed well and were at the right position of the setlist. One surprising fact was, that the number of people in the audience decreased while Primodial was playing. I do not know why, but this strengthen my assumption that a significant bigger part came for the band before. The atmosphere in the venue was awesome and whoever did not realize this, it is their own fault! It was an awesome and indescribable show!
The evening with Primordial, Moonsorrow, Der Weg einer Freiheit and Death the Leveller was a unique evening. The combination of bands was well-picked and every single meter/mile of my travel was worthwhile. Thanks for that and next time, I will be there again gladly!
