Metal Wani’s Adam Hayward has a chat with Black Stone Cherry’s John-Fred Young about the new album “Family Tree”, the importance of fun and bringing things back to Kentucky to record the new material.
“We got to record back home in Kentucky, and we produced the record ourselves and Chris (Robertson) mixed it” “We’re at that stage finally in our career where we’re able to do what we please so to speak” said John-Fred.

On the change in record label “we’re finally getting artistic control of everything” “We switched labels a couple of years ago and we’re with Mascot now and they totally understand the BSC road to survival and they’re getting it, they’re so supportive”.
“We started writing songs last year in January, we knew that the direction was opening, the roots influences coming through”. “The old label just wanted to make us a radio friendly band. We’re like just a big melting pot of music”. “We had years of people looking over our shoulders and now we’re allowed to be the band we want to be”.
