Archspire is a band known for their speed and technical proficiency, with a majority of that being led by their inimitable sticks man Spencer Prewett. Ahead of their inaugural tour of Australia and New Zealand, Metal Wani’s Jake Patton was lucky enough to catch up with Spencer to talk about the upcoming tour, and all things Archspire.
They open the conversation by discussing the Australian and New Zealand tour, which they partner with friends Psycroptic for, talk about the bands plans when they have some downtime in the country, and talk about how important the relationship between Archspire’s and Psycroptic is.

They then discuss the bands latest album “Relentless Mutation” and the whether the reception it received exceeded the bands expectations, and how the writing process for the album has differed to the way that the band has previously written albums.
They discuss the length of the bands albums and explore the notion of whether or not Spencer thinks they are ‘too short’, before diving into Spencer’s dedication to drumming and how hard he works at perfecting his craft. They then close out by talking about what it takes to be in a technical death metal band in 2018 and what advice Spencer would give to someone starting one of those bands now.
