Highly revered Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudess spoke to Metal Wani’s Daniel Jaramillo about his upcoming solo tour The Bach to Rock: A Musician’s Journey Tour and his first time coming to Australia as a solo artist.
He discussed why it was the right time to tour down under on his own and the difference between playing solo piano shows and full on rock shows with Dream Theater. He reflects on his time at The Julliard School and how the education he received shaped him immensely as a musician.
He talks about the songs he’ll be playing each night on the tour and why he picked a certain repertoire and elaborates on his plans to write, record and release new solo albums in the near future.
He outlines his process of writing music for Dream Theater and his other various projects and also gives an exciting update on the next Dream Theater album. Finally, he talks about what creative achievements he is most proud of and his thoughts on whether young musicians today are following in his footsteps by studying music at a conservatory.
