Without any doubt, solos are a big part of Metallica.
From the blistering Master Of Puppets to Fade To Black, they reflect a bit of heavy metal noodling. And, of course, we, the fans air guitar in front of everyone every time we hear these solos.
In a new Interview with Kerrang, guitarist Kirk Hammett was asked which Metallica solo he’s most satisfied with.
He said:
“I was thinking about the solo in The Unforgiven”.
He added:
“I remember showing up to the studio that morning, thinking I was going to play all these certain licks and then [Black Album producer] Bob Rock’s going, ‘That’s f*c*ing cr*p.’
Then it was one of the very first times when I said, ‘Just f*c*ing hit the record button,’ and sh*t flowed out. I prefer to record my solos that way now because I like the spontaneity of it; that’s how that solo was pretty much created.”
