Whitechapel make a welcome appearance at Download 2019 and we spoke with Alex Wade, Guitarist to talk about their latest release, touring and playing out live.
On the success of their latest recording “The Valley”, he said:
“The fans are liking it, I feel there’s a certain vibe and feel to the record, we just so pleased to be playing these live to the audience”.
Speaking about the whole feeling of the new album, a new phase for Whitechapel, Alex said:
“Recording this it was pretty smooth compared to some of our past records. We worked with Mark Lewis again and he did a really great job, engineering the record and making sure the tracks sounded how they needed to sound. Working with him and recording at home studio is always a comfortable environment”.
On the production of ‘The Valley’:
We tried to make the record very dynamic. We wanted to make the parts both softer and hard based on the way songs were structured.
On Phil’s vocal approach on ‘Hickory Creek’:
“It wasn’t written with the intent of Phil to sing the whole thing. Ben wrote the bulk of the song and with Phil’s idea, he just went to the studio and started singing. It was great. Fans cannot deny that the singing isn’t good”
