In a new Interview with Humo Negro, Phil Anselmo discussed the idea of Pantera tribute tour with Rex Brown and Zakk Wylde.
When asked about joining forces with Rex, Phil replied (via Blabbermouth):
“I’m open for anything. And Rex and I, we are in touch and we talk. We’re friends and everything’s cool. So, I keep an open mind – I keep an open mind. We’ll see in the future.”
Asked about Zakk Wylde stepping in on the guitar, Anselmo replied:
“Well, Zakk is a busy man. He does his own band, he does stuff with Ozzy and all that stuff. We spoke about it maybe one time. And I think everybody – everybody – is… I guess they’re like me. Keep an open mind about it.
“We’ll see. But I know from all the hard work with The Illegals here to make those songs right, all of us, we would have to take time off and really practice together and get everything perfect.
“So it’s a lot of work. And I’m doing a lot of bands, man, right now. [But] if everything was lined up, I would do it – sure. F*ck yeah! Why not?”

Just be sure to bill it as a tribute show, to call it Pantera would really be disrespectful to the late Abbott brothers… The fans all still got a lot of love for Phil and Rex but it’ll never be Pantera without both Vinnie and Dime… Zakk would definitely be the guy for the gig I think Dime would appreciate that the question would be who’s on drums and that’s a tough one and whomever is chosen if this was to come to fruition would have to be extremely respectful to the Pantera legacy… Joey Gonzalez could probably pull it off but would the fans show him the respect for it??… Phil & the Illegals have covered quite a bit of the Pantera catalogue since Vinnie’s untimely passing so Gonzalez be thwould probably be Phil’s first choice… I’d love to see it happen for Phil & Rex to give their brothers in Pantera a final salute and lay all the past animosities of Dime’s tragic death to rest and show some love for the brothers Abbott and what they contributed to the genre of Heavy Metal…. God Bless Phil for even considering it and I’m sure Rex would be on board…
Man I’ve been dreaming about this for years, I really wish it would happen. Pantera is still and always will be the best metal band ever!
