Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain is always on road and kicking a*s.
In a new interview, McBrain addressed his health and we were surprised to see him undergoing immense pain.
He said:
“Earlier this year, I suffered from a collapsed vertebra and it pinched my nerves. I was in agony, so the doc said, ‘Whatever you do, take it easy. While you’re on tour, don’t play too much golf because we want you to make sure it gets better.’
“So I’ve had about two rounds of golf between three-four months, but that’s what we’re gonna change because I’m gonna be playing every day off as long as my back’s fine. [Laughs]”
McBrain also revealed a moment when a fan asked him to sign on a skull which freaked him out.
He said:
“Somebody came up with a skull in Brazil; in fact, we had one thrown on stage. I forget what Rock in Rio was that; I think it might’ve been 2001.
“Somebody came up and I was outside one of the hotels, maybe in Brazil – god knows where they get these skulls from. So this kid comes out and says, ‘Oh, can you sign this for me?’
“I’m, like, ‘Where’d you get that?’ ‘Oh,’ he said, ‘my father gave it to me.’ I go, ‘That looks like a real skull.’ He said, ‘Yeah, it is.’ I said, ‘I’m not touching that.’
“So that’s the strangest thing I’ve refused to sign. I can’t really think of anything that weird that I’ve put my autograph on.”
Legendary Iron Maiden have been on tour for more than 2 years now after the release of their last studio album. Iron Maiden celebrated the success of the album with a world tour with a phenomenal production. On the other side, Judas Priest released a successful record titled ‘Firepower’ which cracked billboards and other charts worldwide. Judas Priest have been on tour for more than a year since the release of the record. Priest main songwriter Glenn Tipton hasn’t joined the band live for more than a few dates since last year. It’s interesting to hear that there’s a possibility of an epic tour featuring Iron Maiden and Judas Priest along with thrash legends Testament.
