Even though she got fired from Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne’s wife, Sharon, doesn’t hesitate to share her opinion on Ronnie James Dio. (via Cheatsheet.com)
Sharon Osbourne considers that Ronnie James Dio was not the perfect voice for Black Sabbath.
Here’s what she said about it:
“Ronnie had a great voice but to change a band that had a kind of bluesy type vocal, real gritty bluesy vocal to a rock opera vocal, it was so different,”
“I always looked at Ronnie as a Rock opera-type singer. Ozzy had such a bluesy voice, I never got it.”
After he left Black Sabbath, Ronnie James Dio went solo as Dio.
Sharon added:
“They had two hit albums.”
“They did, they had two good hit albums, they had two good tours together. Then it was the band were fighting. There was a lot of fighting in the band with Ronnie.”
On multiple lineup changes in the band, Sharon added:
“Well, they kept getting all these different guys in.”
“Every week it was somebody else and somebody else.”

And ozzy didn’t change members?? Post-oz, Sabbath was able to open their musical options ten-fold, to new demensions. She’s jealous because R.J. DIO (R.I.P.) was so much more talented than her husband…who actually got the gig to begin with because his dad owned a musshop & he had access to a pa.
The original Ronnie era of Sabbath was amazing, yes Ronnie is a completely different type of vocalist and the fact that Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules were both hit albums means that Ronnie was a good choice as a replacement regardless in the difference in their styles… The last Great Classic album by Sabbath was Mob Rules everything that has come since has been mediocre at best… Ian Gillan was a bluesy type of singer still no dice with Born Again, Glenn Hughes also bluesy singer technically wasn’t in Black Sabbath those albums were slated to be Tony Iommi solo albums, Ray Gillen in Sabbath would of been amazing had he not been dying from AIDS and they put out the album with his vocals, Tony Martin never really sounded right in Sabbath…So really Dio was the perfect replacement for Ozzy at that period of Sabbath…
I thought Heaven & Hell was a great Record. Ronnie’s voice was one of the best voices in Metal period!! R.I.P. Ronnie? Ozzy has a great singing voice. But not as good as Ronnie’s was in my opinion. There are people that will disagree with me. But Ozzy is still the King of Heavy Metal! Sabbath basically invented it!!?
