Rush’s Alex Lifeson was interviewed recently by Make Weird Music, where he mentioned former bandmate Geddy Lee and himself have been talking about working on new music.
The guitarist said:
“After we finished the last [Rush] tour in 2015, I started just writing on my own and doing some stuff. Geddy was working on his book. We talked about getting together and doing some stuff together, but it got very, very busy for him, even after he finished writing the book — taking it on the road. So we never got a chance to sit down and start working or just having some fun together.
”We still talk about it, and I’m sure we will. Of course, now with the pandemic, it’s kind of wrecked things for a bit. But we’re both eager to get back together and kind of get back into that thing that we’ve done since we were 14 years old that we love to do. And we work really, really well together. So we’ll see what happens with that.”
Lifeson also discussed the death of Rush drummer Neil Peart more than a year ago, admitting that it hit him and Geddy hard.
“After Neil passed, it was very difficult to get inspired or motivated to play. As you can imagine, we were very, very close. You lose anybody that’s close, it’s a profound thing. And I think both Geddy and I expected to be better with it. Neil was sick for three and a half years, and no one really knew about it. Well, lots of people knew about it, but it wasn’t public, the information. So we thought that we would be prepared for the end when it came, and we weren’t. We both really struggled with it.
“Same thing happened when [Neil‘s] daughter passed away,” he explained.
“I didn’t play for quite a long time at all; music just didn’t seem that important. And it was the same thing with this. And then COVID hit, and now we’re all sort of in a different mental space.”

Neil can’t be replaced. However Alex and Geddy can move on without him. I doubt that Neil would have wanted them to quit performing. More like he would have wanted them to find a Drummer and lyricist they could work with and keep on being Rush. Well, that is what I’d like to see.
They don’t need to tour. Just record some music, I can’t imagine the number of top drummers who would volunteer to drum for free.
Good morning, Larry.
Hello Landy, has been a while. How are things down your way? The deep freeze is mostly over and spring is coming. In fact, we are supposed to have some global warming around here next week. Can’t wait.
Landy, how are you doing? I’ve been out of the loop for a while. Not so long that I can’t see what this current crop of lefties and RINOS are up to. None of it any good. The speed of the destruction they are causing is frightening because it is so well planned out. A couple trillion here, a couple there and everywhere. Bread and circuses, very foreboding of things to come in my scattered mind.
Hello, Larry. Good to hear from you. I’m well, thank you. Yes, this train is on breakneck pace. We’re witnessing the complete change of everything. During the Super Bowl, there wasn’t any cash transactions. It’s just a matter of time, until it all goes cashless. It’s the end of the world as we know it.
They were Rush before Neil, they can be Rush after Neil, too. Alex and Geddy go back to grade nine.
This was weeks ago and it’s just a , I’m sure we’ll do something at some point kind of verbiage.
There is no press release confirming when and if certain.
Odd post
Why does it have to be Rush. They have been working in that space for almost 50 years. Maybe they will do something different, explore other avenues. Don’t make them live in the past just let old friends do what they do.
Geddy & Alex should see if Gene Hoglan is available. Not only is Gene a phenomenal drummer, he’s also a brilliant lyricist. Gene even plays guitar!
This is great, under a new band name. Rush died with Peart.
