Kerry King says that he was angry over the prospect of SLAYER calling it quits when the subject was first broached.
In a new interview with Metal Hammer magazine, Kerry King said:
“Anger… what else? It was premature. The reason I say ‘premature’ is because my heroes from my childhood are still playing! I can still play, I still want to play, but that livelihood got taken away from me.
“But, anyway, on to the next chapter, I guess,” he continued.
“We were on top of the world, and there’s nothing wrong with going out on top of the world, it’s a good way to go out. So, bravo for that. But do I miss playing? Yeah, absolutely.”
Recently guitarist Gary Holt talked to Guitar World magazine, where he said Slayer “had a lot more music in them” before calling it quits nearly three years ago.
Read below what the guitarist said:
“Did the band stop too soon? That’s for them to decide. I know that’s how Kerry feels. Maybe Tom [Araya] doesn’t agree. I think the band had a lot more music in them, but you know what they say.
”It’s better to go out too soon than too late. The band went out firing on four cylinders. Better to do that than milk it for a few more years when everybody knows you’re milking it. That would tarnish the legacy of the band. This way they went out in peak form. Maybe that’s best.”
