Guitarist Joe Perry talked to Byrd of 97.1 FM The Drive, where he said that drummer Joey Krammer will not take part in Aerosmith’s farewell tour.
Here’s Perry explaining the reason:
“His heart’s in the right place, but, listen, playing the drums is an athletic event. And there’s a certain point where you’re just kind of, like,… every joint starts to give out, man. So at this point, we’re not thinking he’s gonna be there. We’ll see.”
When Aerosmith announced the farewell tour earlier this week, the band said about Joey Kramer‘s absence from the upcoming trek:
“While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health.
”Joey‘s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.”

Which begs the question who’s taking his place?
John Douglas who also performed with the band in Las Vegas.
Who else but rock great, , Peter Criss
Just throwing it out there, but is there any opportunity for him to have a stand in for the majority of the shows? Can he sit it and just be part of the tour. All you guys have been a huge part of my life and I would hate to see you out without the whole band even if he only played a couple of songs. Kinda has the same feel as when Ray Bourque was traded from the Bruins at the end of his career, or even Tom Brady leaving New England. I know it sounds selfish, but Aerosmith just isnt Aerosmith without Joey Kramer. Watch the video of you guys all jamming out live RATS IN THE CELLAR and tell me I’m wrong. Love you guys good luck, and Thank you for all the good times. signing off from MIDDLEBORO MA!
Joe B.
That’s exactly what I was thinking – couldn’t he just play a song or two every night? Maybe it’s the travel that’s too much of a strain now? All that aside, I would love to see the farewell show, but the cheapest tickets were $150 and behind the stage. No thanks.
I say that is a fat no
I can tell when he is not playing . Doesn’t sound right
Kenny Aronoff would be a good choice for a stand-in drummer.
What a lame excuse from Steven Tyler, he probably can do the job better than anybody else playing his own music, he makes it sounds like he is 90 years old. so I don’t think that’s the reason it’s just an excuse. It’s not the first time for bands using that excuse to replace the drummer, it’s getting old. And for you, Mr. Tyler start telling the truth.
This is what Perry said, not Tyler. 🤦🤦
I was lucky enough to see you guys in Dover Ma i was just a kid on a stingray bike it was great the next time was 3 concerts in a row at old Boston garden thanks guys and good luck . And sorry Joey My sons name by the way . i remember your van it was the best ! but im sure not too comfortable remember your roots and we all love you mark from Needham who got diverted from fishing the charles river in Dover to see what all the hubub was about and i got to see one of the greatest rock bands that will ever exist at the very begining it was awesome and thank you my life is better because of it !
I agree with what Joe B posted. Joey is a vital component of Aerosmith. They should allow him to do what Judas Priest is letting Glen Tipton do ( play certain shows. He has early Parkinsons Disease). Peace out from Waltham Ma.

Totally agree. The band is not the same without him. If Joey says he can’t perform its one thing. I’ve seen Joey living in Texas and he appears in good shape and sharp as a tack. His wife was ill and recently passed away. I thought that was why he didn’t play Vegas. Great to see Aerosmith still performing.
Why even do the tour if it can’t be done in nostalgic fashion? Who wants to see their going away tour with a replacement drummer? The intrigue and aura of the band is that it’s always been the same 5 guys.
Tommy Lee did it he only played like three songs on the stadium tour and introduce the new guy to fill in… why can’t Joey?
Joe Perry left in 1979, Aerosmith put out Rock in a Hard Place Album in 1982, Jimmy Crespo playing Guitar.
Perry Returned in (I think ’84).
I think having him play a smaller number of shows is the answer. I expect ticket sales on those dates would skyrocket. We caught them during their recent Vegas residency, the drummer they used was fantastic but this being the final shows from this legendary band, only right to include him.
The tour is already 90% sold out.
Tyler’s not exactly in his prime, and bringing his A- Game either…
They have all been bringing their A game since 1971….
Dave Swart knows their material inside and out and would be a great choice
Never heard of her
Honestly, I never trust a band maté speaking for another, hence Motley Crüe talking about Mick Mars. Let Kramer speak for himself. Aerosmith will get a hired gun and split Kramer Profits. Seem to be common lately.
