In a recent appearance on A Radio Rock, Gary Cherone, the lead singer of Extreme and former member of Van Halen, ignited excitement among fans by confirming the existence of unreleased songs from his time in the legendary rock band. Cherone shed light on his three-year stint with Van Halen, hinting at a treasure trove of unheard tracks awaiting release. These revelations, coupled with statements made by former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, have sparked renewed interest in the band’s archive and raised hopes for the unveiling of long-awaited musical gems.
During the interview, Cherone shared details about the creative period that followed Van Halen’s album “VH III” and subsequent tours. He revealed that the band had returned to the studio and crafted a collection of songs, ranging from rough demos to more refined compositions. While Cherone expressed uncertainty regarding the release of these songs, he acknowledged that the final decision lies with Alex Van Halen, Van Halen’s renowned drummer. Here’s what he said:
“After the ”VH III” and then we toured, we went back in the studio, and we wrote a bunch of songs. Some of them are just rough demos; some of them were more finished products.
”As far as if they ever see the light of day, I don’t know, maybe someday. Alex Van Halen is the boss of that, but you never know. But I can say some of those songs are really good.”
Cherone’s statements align with earlier comments made by Michael Anthony during an interview with Eddie Trunk in April. Anthony, known for his bass work and harmonies with Van Halen, disclosed that the band’s archive contains an abundance of unreleased material. He further revealed that efforts were underway to delve into this musical treasure trove. Excitement permeates the Van Halen community as Anthony hinted at plans to reissue albums from the Sammy Hagar era. The first release in this series would be the highly anticipated “Right Here, Right Now” live album from 1992. Anthony also revealed that a significant amount of material resides at Ed’s 5150 studio, the creative sanctuary for the band. The task of exploring and assessing this vast collection falls to either Wolfgang Van Halen (known as “Wolfie”) or Alex Van Halen, keeping the anticipation alive for Van Halen fans worldwide.

Well if ther with Cherone and didnt make an album that was worst VH album of all time! Who Cares.
Apparently the 2nd album was really good.
Eddie decided to pan it
VHIII was the only VH project I listened to once and threw the CD away. I didn’t understand it. Couldn’t follow the progression or continuity of the songs. It seemed like a random set of songs put together.
Love Extreme. Love VH. But together, it wasn’t for me. I was looking forward to it when I first heard about the marriage. I thought maybe Eddy was finally happy again. But just not for me.
There is one song that has already been available for years “That’s Why I Love You” or TWILY for short. Meh. Don’t love it, don’t hate it either.
A lot of people don’t realize that VH III was a very different concept for the band. Unforunately Gary gets blamed for most of it even though it was pretty much Ed’s unofficial solo album.
What was different about the album was that typically in the past, Ed & Al would produce some music and lyrics would be added. For VH III, they wrote the lyrics first and Ed created music for them.
It’s not a classic VH album, but it’s solid after you spend some time with it. Musically, no surprise; the band is tight.
As someone already mentioned, there was a second album that was apparently mostly written and ready. But in stepped the production company giving the brothers an ultimatum to get Dave or Sammy back, or they were being dropped from the label. Hence the 2004 reunion disaster and a greatest hits package.
Hopefully we can hear the second Cherone album someday…. better yet, some other unreleased VH music.
Yhere was done good stuff in VH3 Fire in the hole/From afar /Dirty water dog /Once /Ballot or the bullet /Without you it was a different side of VH a better producer would have helped cause year to the day and Josephina and last one should have been left off and heavier tunes there
VH III was the only VH album I don’t own. Although the CD ducked there are some good songs on it.
Fire in the Hole
Dirty Water Dog
Great tunes
Ok but Alex has actually said nothing about this
I love III, hoping they do release some more songs for us. Alex is still feeling his brothers loss. RIP EVH and peace be with you Al.
