Rikki Rockett, the drummer of the band Poison, expressed his disapproval of the “inhumane” comments made towards the passengers of the Titan submarine in a recent Facebook post. The submarine had embarked on a sightseeing expedition to explore the wreckage of the Titanic before it vanished last Sunday. Rockett, deeply affected by both the incident and the heartless remarks, conveyed the following message:
“It saddens me to witness the insensitivity displayed towards the individuals and families associated with the missing submarine. I have come across truly heartless comments such as ‘Play stupid games, get stupid prizes!’ and other derogatory remarks. Are people truly capable of being so judgmental and lacking in basic human compassion? It astounds me how anyone could stoop so low.”
Rockett proceeded to question whether others had ever pursued something significant to them, despite it being perceived as foolish or a waste of money by outsiders. He believed that collective empathy and compassion could play a crucial role in times of dire need. He appealed for decency and unity, stating, “Can’t we, at the very least, offer solace and support during such a trying time? May everyone involved find strength and success in their endeavors.”
A day later, following the tragic news of the submarine’s passengers being declared deceased, Rockett felt compelled to address those who had mocked the situation. His subsequent post expressed the following sentiments:
“The devastating news about the Oceangate vessel is disheartening, but it appears that the individuals on board were unaware of the impending danger. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends who have lost their loved ones. I hope that humanity can learn from this tragedy and take measures to prevent such incidents in the future. To those individuals who have chosen to mock and ridicule this catastrophic event, you possess a special brand of callousness. I will never forget your behavior, and I will forever view you with disdain.”
In response to the overwhelming reaction, Rockett conveyed his intention to refrain from further discussing the disaster. In a final statement, he expressed his viewpoint:
“I would like to conclude my thoughts on this matter. Yes, the endeavor undertaken by the submarine was undoubtedly risky, and personally, I would not have pursued it. However, exploration plays a vital role in our human experience, be it in space, the ocean, or any other frontier. Pushing boundaries is inherent to human nature and is essential for our progress as a species, even though some might perceive this particular incident as a pursuit exclusive to the wealthy. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect that.
My concern lies with those individuals who feel the need to engage in dark humor. And if one does not find it amusing, they are met with blame and name-calling, often labeled as ‘triggered’ or ‘too sensitive.’ Individuals who exhibit such behavior, well, I am grateful they were not my parents.”
