Guitarist Zakk Wylde talked to Guitar World where he talked about his past relationship with Pantera members, and also discussed the dispute between Phil Anselmo and late drummer Vinnie Paul.
Zakk said:
“I told Vinnie and the fellas, ‘If you guys ever wanted to do it, of course, I would be there for you to support you and to support Dime. Just tell me what I need to learn, and I’ll learn it.’ There were all these conversations circling around. […]
“I have no idea where Vinnie was with Phil back then. Like I said, I don’t get involved with that stuff. I’m not saying this (group of performers) is Pantera. I just want to honor Dime and the band.
”It’s like asking Eric Clapton, ‘If Mitch (Mitchell) and Noel (Redding) said, Would you honor Jimi and go out and play and sing with us?’
”Of course, Clapton’s gonna say yes. It’s not even a matter of saying yes. You have to do this. So if they ask you to do it, you do it.”
