In a recent conversation with CBS News Sunday Morning correspondent Jim Axelrod, Geddy Lee discussed the possibility of Rush considering a new drummer following Neil Peart’s passing.
Joined by Alex Lifeson in the interview, the guitarist addressed the future without Peart, expressing the difficulty in figuring out the next chapter:
“Yeah, it’s difficult to figure out what that chapter is without him.”
When questioned about the prospect of partnering with a top drummer for a new tour, Geddy replied:
“Have we talked about it? Yeah. It’s not impossible, but at this point, I can’t guarantee it.”
Lifeson interjected, expressing a more positive outlook for a potential tour:
“It’s just not in our DNA to stop.”
Reflecting on staying true to one’s artistic vision, Geddy emphasized:
“Do what you believe because if you do what someone else believes, and you fail, you’ve got nothing. If you do what you believe, and you fail, you still have hope.”
In a previous interview with the Washington Post, Geddy Lee had conveyed a positive attitude about a reunion with Lifeson, mentioning the disappearance of the taboo around the subject:
“It had been a taboo subject, and playing those songs again with a third person was the elephant in the room, and that kind of disappeared. It was nice to know that if we decide to go out, Alex and I, whether we went out as part of a new thing or whether we just wanted to go out and play Rush as Rush, we could do that now.”
