Sandra Araya, the wife of Slayer’s bassist and vocalist Tom Araya, recently took to social media to shed light on the pivotal role she and her husband played in bringing about the Slayer reunion.
In a surprising twist of events, Slayer announced their decision to reunite for a series of headline festival performances this fall, marking a return five years after the band concluded what many believed to be their final tour.
According to a report by Blabbermouth, Sandra Araya addressed the band’s reunion decision on social media over the weekend, revealing that she had been persistently encouraging Tom Araya to consider a comeback for over a year. In an effort to set the record straight amid online criticism, she stated:
“Let’s clarify for the trolls: Tom was done with playing. I have harassed him for over a year. He agreed FINALLY. We shared that news with Slayer’s awesome managers, and they did the rest! So yes, without Tom, it wouldn’t have happened… Without me BUGGING HIM, it wouldn’t have happened. But go ahead with your drama! I, however, will be enjoying a few shows, and I’m thankful he loves me and the fans enough to do this.”
According to Sandra, it was her persistent efforts that eventually persuaded Tom to entertain the idea of a reunion, leading to discussions with Slayer’s management and the official announcement of their return.
In response to the news of Slayer’s reunion, fans expressed a mix of excitement and skepticism, prompting reactions from both Sandra and Lisa Holt, the wife of guitarist Gary Holt, on various social media platforms. They addressed a range of accusations from fans, including financial motivations and allegations of dishonesty surrounding the band’s previous farewell tour.
A few days ago, Lisa wrote:
“To all the people saying ‘they are liars,’ ‘they must have run out of money,’ ‘it’s not Slayer without so and so,’ I have an idea for you all… Don’t go. And for all the people who did go to the final tour dates and enjoyed it… awesome!!”
