Sammy Hagar recently shared his thoughts on Van Halen’s legacy and his time with the legendary band, specifically addressing Alex Van Halen’s lack of acknowledgment for his late brother Eddie’s contributions.
In a nostalgic Instagram post, Hagar shared a picture of himself with Eddie, looking back at their golden years together. He wrote, “Walking to the stage in the good old days. I needed to see this photo today to close out this year.” This post resonated deeply with fans, sparking numerous comments, including one that caught Hagar’s attention.
A fan commented, “No disrespect to Alex but it’s ok to like Van Halen with Sammy even if he doesn’t anymore.” Hagar’s response was direct and candid, addressing his frustrations with Alex Van Halen’s refusal to recognize the contributions he made during his tenure with the band.
In his reply, Hagar said, “It could have my friend but instead we went on to sell over 50 million records for number one album sold out every building and stadium in the world for a whole decade. That never happened again.” He emphasized the success the band enjoyed during their time together, something he feels is often overlooked.
He further added, “Alex is not doing his brother’s musical legacy justice by not acknowledging all the number one albums and some great music Eddie and I wrote together not Alex! but Eddie and I wrote together. To not acknowledge the 10 years of music is blasphemy to his brother’s musicianship and songwriting and legacy.”
Through these comments, Hagar made it clear that he believes the years he spent with Eddie in Van Halen were pivotal in shaping the band’s success, and he feels strongly that Alex’s stance is a disservice to Eddie’s legacy.
