In a recent interview with The Rockpit, WHITESNAKE guitarist Reb Beach addressed the band’s future and whether fans can expect to see them perform live again soon. According to Beach, the decision largely depends on frontman David Coverdale.
Beach revealed, “Look, it’s all up to David. I’ll tell you what I know. David – was it three years ago now? – he called me two weeks before the SCORPIONS tour and said, ‘I’m just exhausted, darling. That’s it. I’m exhausted and I just can’t do it. I’m so sorry.’” Coverdale, feeling physically drained, ended up canceling the tour at the last minute.
Interestingly, just after the tour cancellation, Coverdale sold his publishing for a whopping $50 million. “He told me to keep my equipment at his house, in case we do something else, if something comes up,” Beach added. “’But just leave enough so that you can tour, if something comes up.’ And I’m like, ‘Great.’ Well, it’s been three years.”
Despite the passing time, Beach believes there’s still hope for some future live shows, although not necessarily a full-fledged tour. He shared his thoughts on the matter, saying, “I’ve always been under the impression that if David does do something, it’s gonna be five nights in Vegas. That he can do.”
However, the guitarist acknowledged that Coverdale’s aversion to long tours due to the toll traveling takes on him makes it unlikely the band will embark on another European farewell tour anytime soon. Beach expressed regret over how the band’s last tour ended, saying, “It really was a shame how that whole thing ended. We all got COVID, and that was it.”
As of now, WHITESNAKE’s future on stage remains uncertain, with fans hoping for a return to live performances but with no clear timeline. For now, the fate of the band’s live shows lies in the hands of David Coverdale.
