Guitarist Dave Navarro has filed a lawsuit against Perry Farrell, his former Jane’s Addiction bandmate, over an on-stage physical altercation that occurred during the band’s show in Boston last September.
According to TMZ, Navarro is suing Farrell for assault and battery, claiming the frontman physically attacked him both onstage and backstage during the September 2024 performance. The incident reportedly began when Farrell lashed out at Navarro for playing too loud, and was captured in fan-shot footage that shows Farrell shoving and swinging at Navarro mid-set.
$10 Million Lawsuit for Emotional and Financial Damage
In addition to Navarro’s suit, bassist Eric Avery and drummer Stephen Perkins have joined in a separate lawsuit against Farrell, citing emotional distress, negligence, and breach of contract. The band claims that the altercation forced them to cancel the remainder of their tour and scrap a planned album release, leading to millions in financial losses.
Together, the trio is seeking at least $10 million in damages.
Navarro also alleges that the violence continued backstage, where Farrell “threw another unexpected punch at him, striking him on the left side of the face.”
In a recent interview with Guitar Player, Navarro made it clear that there is no future for Jane’s Addiction in its original form:
“It was my least favorite gig that I have ever played,” he said, ruling out any possibility of future collaboration.
The lawsuit marks what appears to be a definitive and dramatic end to one of alternative rock’s most iconic and volatile partnerships.
