Just 24 hours after the death of Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Halford of Judas Priest delivered one of the most emotional moments in rock history at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre in England. In front of thousands of fans, Halford took a pause from the band’s set to honor the late Black Sabbath frontman.
“Look, it’s been tough the last 24 hours right? It’s been tough. But he would want us to be doing this… he would want us to be having a good time, which is what we’re doing right now. We love you, Ozzy!”
🕊️ “Giants in the Sky” — A Song for Ozzy and All the Legends Lost
After addressing the crowd, Halford introduced the next song with a heartfelt dedication:
“This next song is all about him and all of the other greats that we’ve lost. Their music lives forever. They used to be down here on the earth plain, now they’re on the sky plain as we call it. This is ‘Giants In The Sky’!”
Fans in the crowd described the moment as “surreal”, “spiritual”, and “metal mourning at its most beautiful.”
🤘 A Brotherhood in Metal
Rob Halford and Ozzy Osbourne were more than just two pillars of British heavy metal—they were part of the same legendary generation that defined the genre. While their bands—Judas Priest and Black Sabbath—each carved their own legacy, their paths often intersected in festivals, collaborations, and mutual respect.
This tribute wasn’t just for a fellow musician. It was a farewell to a brother in arms.
