Prominent rock/metal radio host Eddie Trunk talked about Ghost and how important image is to their overall package, wondering if metal fans would still love the band if they stripped their looks down to “blazers and slacks.” Trunk said:

“They are definitely one of the biggest buzz bands in rock and metal right now. I find the band incredibly interesting, as a lot of others do as well. I know they released a video for what is essentially, in my view, a pop song [‘Dance Macabre’].
“This song is essentially a pop-rock song. And I find it immensely fascinating that Ghost are a band that is completely loved and embraced in the metal world, but musically – especially recently, I understand they have other records, I understand they have some different sounds – but by and large, they do not sound metal and are not really metal in their sound.
“I am not dissing what they sound like. I am not saying they are not good, I am not saying they are not catchy, I am not saying any of that. What I’m saying is that this is clearly a pop record and it’s really interesting to see all these metal guys dancing around to this.

“And I wonder – if Ghost didn’t look the way they did, would people be so into this in the metal world? If they were wearing blazers and slacks and singing like this, would metal fans still be dancing around and saying how great this is?
“I’ve been thinking a lot about image, something I clearly do not have. [Laughs] I admit that. But some people are really into that and it’s very important to them. It’s a big part of music obviously and has been for a really long time.”
