In a conversation with THAT Rocks!, former Van Halen singer, Sammy Hagar, explained the reason he feels sorry for his son, Andrew Hagar.
During the interview, the host Eddie Trunk said to Hagar:
“What’s interesting, Sammy is that there are so many artists now who have kids that are doing music. I mean, everybody, Slash, Lars Ulrich, everybody. And there’s this misnomer because they think, ‘Well, it’s just such an easy ride for them because of who their parents are.
“Not the case at all because you’ve got to overcome that, and you still gotta be good. How many famous people had kids that went nowhere in music? So, you still gotta deliver, you still gotta get the breaks. It’s really not an easy ride.”, Hagar replied:
“100%. I feel sorry for him, you know, and I try to help him, like my people, my friends, like you, and say, ‘Check it out.’ I don’t say to you, ‘Hey man, you play this around f**king.’”
Trunk interrupted and said:
“No, yeah, I know I played it because it was good, as you told me as well.”
Hagar replied back:
“Yeah, I said, ‘Listen to it, and you’ll play it.’ So, I don’t know; it’s a weird thing out there. I really don’t know how to do it. I just said, ‘You got the money; you have a trust fund. Buy yourself a van that sleeps for and a little trailer on the back, and get your f**king a** out on the road and play for 10 people.
”Yeah, it doesn’t matter; just go into some bar and say, ‘Hey, nobody’s here. Can we play?’ Alright, we’ll play for a beer and a half and a hamburger.’ So, he’s thinking about doing that.”
