Whitesnake guitarist, Adrian Vandenberg, had a conversation with Border City Rock Talk, where he talked about touring with Kiss, mentioning the two Kiss members, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, saying that they were not pleased that they had to open for Whitesnake during a concert in Canada.
About this topic, Vandenberg said:
“With Whitesnake, we played Canada, and Kiss was supporting us. The egos of Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons…”
The guitarist was asked if the Kiss members were ”humble”, replying:
“No, besides of Canada and some. They didn’t like it, they were programmed as, well, ‘support.’ But they didn’t like it, that they were programmed as special guest support or whatever. So they started screaming and shouting against the crowd, and they said, ‘Man, those guys from Whitesnake, they don’t want us to use our inflatable- our props.’ They call it [props], but they were inflatables, fakes.”
The guitarist clarified why they didn’t let the band put their props on the stage:
“Why not inflate anything? But there was no space on the stage, we couldn’t help it, I don’t care. They can inflate the grandma, I don’t care. But they couldn’t fit these things on stage, so they weren’t happy campers, so to speak.”
The economic problems of the bands were mentioned, and the interviewer suggested raising a fund for Kiss, which the Whitesnake guitarist approved and said:
“I think so, yeah. They’re running out of money, I think. But yeah, I think it would be a good cause, a GoFundMe. I’m pretty sure GS would find a way to make it work, too, you know the guy, Gene Simmons. I’m sure he would.”
