After their turbulent on-and-off relationship, Jason Bonham has made an effort to mend fences with Sammy Hagar.
Recently, Hagar shared an interview on Instagram in which he discussed his marriage and celebrated his 28th wedding anniversary. The post drew attention from many of Hagar’s friends, including Michael Anthony, who offered their well wishes in the comments section. Bonham also joined the conversation, commenting, “Love & Miss you guys. The Bonham’s xoxo,” though Hagar has yet to respond to him.
Bonham’s comment followed a prior interview where Hagar addressed the reasons behind the decision to part ways with Bonham. Hagar explained that while Bonham had to leave the band, Kenny Aronoff, who stepped in at the last minute, quickly mastered the songs and earned his place with the band.
Hagar elaborated on why Aronoff remained with them, stating, “Yeah, and that’s why he is still in the band. That’s why we’re moving forward with him. There’s two reasons. Number one, he’s one of the greatest drummers on the planet. I think he’s been on more million-selling records than any musician in the world. And he did so well on this tour, and he plays with Joe on a full-time basis.”
In September, Bonham missed the final four dates of Hagar’s tour to care for his mother. His departure from the band caused some backlash among fans, who questioned the decision. When one fan asked, “Why did you let Jason go?” another responded, “Ego.” Other commenters expressed support for Hagar and Michael Anthony, with one person stating, “Man there is a lot complaining on here today. Hang in there Sammy and Mike you can choose and do as you please. Jason is going to be ok.”
Bonham later expressed his devastation over being let go, revealing how difficult the situation was for him.
