Danny Peart, the brother of legendary RUSH drummer Neil Peart, has tragically passed away on Thursday, March 13, after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. His death comes just over four years after Neil’s passing in January 2020, also from glioblastoma.
Nancy Peart Burkholder, the Peart family’s sister, confirmed the sad news in a heartfelt post on the Peart Family Events Facebook group. She shared, “On this dreary Sunday it is with great sadness that we share that this past Thursday evening we lost our third Peart man and 2nd brother, Danny, after his year and a half battle with glioblastoma (brain cancer).”
Reflecting on Danny’s character, Nancy wrote: “Danny shared our amazing Peart traits that all of our men carried, a true gentleman with a kind heart and generous spirit.”
In honor of Danny’s memory, the Peart family plans to plant a tree at Lakeside Park, next to their father’s tree and Neil’s pavilion. Additionally, they will introduce a new award at this year’s golf tournament in Danny’s name for ‘Sportsmanship,’ an area where he truly excelled. Nancy added, “It is ironic that his golf team has repeatedly come in 2nd place!”
Danny’s passing marks another heartbreaking loss for the Peart family, and his memory will be cherished by those who knew him and his legacy of kindness and sportsmanship.
