3Teeth, an American Industrial band based out of Los Angeles, California are one of the most promising industrial acts to look out for in the present day. Since their inception in 2013, the band has gone from strength to strength and asserted their musical acumen with the release of their self-titled debut record in 2013. 3Teeth have established their praiseworthy perception of the genre with certain signature elements like intense atmosphere, unique grooves, compelling concepts and vivid imagery. The band was also handpicked by Tool as a supporting act for their North America Tour in 2016, which marked a significant event in their career. 3Teeth is a four-piece band consisting of Alexis Mincolla on vocals, Chase Brawner on guitars , Xavier Swafford on keys and Andrew Means on drums.
3Teeth’s music speaks of the rich influences the band draws from Industrial giants of the 90s such as Ministry and Nine Inch Nails. On May 19, the band will be releasing their new album titled ‘shutdown.exe’ via OMF Records. The album has been produced by Sean Beavan known for his remarkable work with Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle and Marilyn Manson. It has been mastered by Howie Wienberg who has worked on diverse styles of music ranging from Deftones, Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana to Pantera and Soundgarden. As also evident from this highly anticipated record, this four-piece band despite bearing an essence of the 90s, presents a fresh Industrial rendition with compelling sound and assertive visual representation. Their music also portrays strong concepts. ‘shutdown.exe’ laces itself around the theme of rejecting consensus reality, i.e. agreed-upon perspectives of reality despite inconsistencies in human subjectivity.
The new album definitely establishes the band’s creative acumen given their ability to present a fresh sound despite being inspired by industrial classics. While upholding signature elements in its sound, ‘shutdown.exe’ explores new musical dimensions. The new album also bears the ability to connect to a wide base of audience with the aggressive sound, unique approach and vibes of mid-90s’ Industrial music. What really stands out in the album is its ability to successfully communicate the thematic brilliance of its songs which are based on reality, power dynamics, rejection of socially constructed beliefs and the tragedy and suffering of the common people.
As evident in tracks like “Degrade”, the album upholds 3Teeth’s signature amalgamation of Industrial rock and metal around contemporary socially relevant themes. The record presents memorable grooves and atmosphere. Some of the music isn’t as aggressive as 3Teeth’s customary sound and is more keen on establishing the desired thought process in the audience as compared to their first record.
Although the 13 songs on the album do not put forth any landmark change in the Industrial genre, there is a good deal of experimenting with the best of Industrial rock, the heaviness of metal and brilliant use of the synth, thus making it a record to look out for this year.
