Starting this fire back in 2013 The Dead Daises are onto their fourth studio album. Back when this all started both David Lowy and Jon Stevens had this great idea for a balls to the wall classic rock and roll band, and it has paid off. All though Jon Stevens is not with the band anymore as members have come and gone. David Lowy is still the one main rocker always pushing this super group further and further. Seems every time they put out an album they have at least one radio rocking tune that we hear on massive rotation. On this album, we start it all off with the heavy groove latent “Resurrected” this is full of piss and vinegar as this song takes you on a fast-passed journey of heavy riffs and a stiff driving rhythm section that meshes just perfectly with John Corabi’s rough raspy voice. Also, love the breakdown at the end of this track. “Resurrected” is also their first single off their new album “Burn It Down”. With new drummer Deen Castronovo meshing dynamically with both Marco Mendoza and David Lowy, lead guitarist Doug Aldrich lays down some intense mind boggling leads that are the perfect balance to John Corabi’s soulful and rugged vocal tones. This album on a whole seem more stripped down, aggressive and raw.
Cool little fact about this next track “Rise Up” it’s already being used in part with “Nascar” race weekend at Fontana. Keep your ears out for this one. With a catchy hook and a great lead that just rips through, this song is a racer for sure. Ok we just got through the first two songs and we are already busting the wheels off this bitch. Original Dead Daisies at its finest. “Burn it Down” has this great bluesy build up, with a nice spotlight on John’s vocals that breaks into full on driver with Aldrich just smashing another solo out of the park as it breaks back into a slower groove through the bridge and rocks back up to the chorus to a closer. With “Judgement Day” we plug in the acoustic’s and go for a little young gun’s theme as it opens to the wild wild west, but with the daises it doesn’t take long before they cock back that gun and fire a round into this song and light it on fire. After burning that song up, we roll onto “What Goes Around”. Fuzz and a fat bass line to open is always a favorite of mine. This is a foot stomping, head banging ripper. “Bitch” chugs along like a bullet train down the track determined to leave you in its tracks if you get off this rock n roll express. This track has all the classic elements that make the Dead Daises come alive each and every time.
Pulling out a break up love balled mid album is the perfect change up on this already smoking album. Needing to cool it off a little and placement is everything “Set Me Free” does just that. This wonderfully arranged power anthem about being set free from a relationship in peril, comes together effortlessly for these master musicians. Pulling their pants back up they go at it with “Dead and Gone” straight ahead dirty rock and roll is all over this track. Corabi just wails all over this as he preaches to us all to “fire it up, turn it on till you’re dead and gone”. Selling your soul for it all, “Can’t Take It with you” tells you to live it, do it all, as when you’re gone so is everything else. This song has a chorus that just gets with you and brings you out to party as you’ll have this song in your head for days as I do writing this. And once again Doug Aldrich out does himself with these crazy ass solos that make me feel like his guitar must be on fire when he’s done. “Leave Me Alone” is the final track on this electric album and it’s not on here as filler, as this track is all balls. Reminds me of an old classic AC/DC track mixed with some Judas Priest. Great groove as this whole album has been nothing short of their best product to date. They give it their all on each track and keep you involved throughout every corner of this album.
If you’re The Dead Daisies fan you are going to love this album instantly, if this is your first time listening to them you’re in for a real treat as they don’t disappoint.
