If an antagonistic alien invasion that included mass-scale human abduction needed a background score that instilled horror, fear, and panic within the hearts of the human civilization, look no further, unless you want your eyes dissected for extra-terrestrial scientific research!
Visceral Disgorge hails from Baltimore, Maryland; representing its most brutal and finest offering of death metal served up in all of its grotesque, gory details. After releasing their debut album Ingesting Putridity in 2011, the band has gained a nefarious reputation for making a creative masterpiece in the death metal sub-genre and playing various shows across the world making their footprint concrete in the metal community.
However, the band underwent the death of their guitarist Steven Rosenzweig in 2014, hindering the band’s progress and eventually substituting the position with guitarist Charlie Marvel. Visceral Disgorge currently also includes Travis Werner breaking down walls with his guttural vocal techniques, Bill Denne drumming away his furious chops, and bassist Eric Little and guitarist Steven Miles riffing away alongside Charlie Marvel.
After 8 long years of no recording, the band is finally coming out with its second album ‘Slithering Evisceration’, and much like the title, the album is graphic, horrifying and worthy of an infinite amount of headbanging over and over again. The 9 track album is nothing short of brutal and technical musicianship from the entire band and reigns supreme in comparison to the debut album from the band.
To accompany the brutality the music offers comes along the lyricism of the band. The lyrics of the album all overlap across the concept of cosmic horror and terror; lyricism that any metalhead and fans of H.P Lovecraft indulge into alike, and anyone who doesn’t indulge into either would squirm at it excessively. Songs like ‘’Architects of Warping Flesh’’ and ‘’Necrotic Biogenesis’’ revolve around the concept of forced genetic mutations; that of humans being taken over by an unexplainable extra-terrestrial horror by transfixing and mutation the cellular biology of our species. Such lyricism accompanied by the morbid guttural vocals exercised throughout the album really emphasized that these extra-terrestrial beings do not have good intentions for humankind.
The remaining tracks cash it all in on this concept which really adds to the morbidity of the album. Accompany that with the spiraling and angst-building aura of brutal death metal, and you have an album that is worthy of being declared as legitimate threats from outer space that are communicated in blast beats, excessively distorted slam riffs, and absolutely distilled horror.
Overall, the album shall definitely please the fans of the band that have long anticipated an album from them for the last 8 years. Fans of extreme music too will find this album too good to not groove to. Visceral Disgorge has delivered a brutal death album that is immensely wholesome within the sub-genre, and it absolutely f*cking slams. Slithering Evisceration out via Agonia Records September 13th!
