Earlier this week, the music world lost one of the rock n roll legend Ric Ocasek.
Today we have the medical report with the exact cause of death.
THE CARS frontman Ric Ocasek died of heart disease, New York Medical Examiners office said Monday. Pulmonary emphysema, a type of lung disease, was also a contributing factor in the 75-year-old singer’s death, the medical examiner added.
It’s unclear how long Ocasek had been suffering from heart disease.
Ric was found dead in his Manhattan apartment yesterday (September 15) by his third wife, supermodel Paulina Porizkova, whom he married after the two met while shooting the video for 1984’s “Drive”. The couple last year announced their separation.
Ocasek had recently undergone an undisclosed surgery. Paulina described his death as “unexpected and untimely,” saying that she found him still asleep when bringing him his Sunday coffee.
Ocasek is survived by six sons, two from each of his three marriages.

It sounds as though some of his bad habits caught up with him. My father had esophageal cancer, larynx removed, spoke with a mechanical device, lost his bladder to cancer, had portion of his colon removed due to cancerous polyps. None of that came CLOSE to killing him. He died in his mid 70’s of emphysema. Kool Filter Kings for 30 or so years. It’s a very slow death; every day, you can do just a little bit less than the day before. He and his band put out some of the sharpest tunes with beautiful melodies. They were the soundtrack for quite of few folks born in the late 70’s. His is a cautionary tale. Get yourself a physical and take care of your self. He has left six beautiful and talented sons as well as all his fans. It’s shocking how many we have lost in the last few years. He absolutely will be missed and fondly remembered. His family has my condolences.
