In a new interview with Infectious Groove Podcast, Journey singer Arnel Pineda looked back on meeting the band’s classic vocalist Steve Perry
Arnel was appreciated by the interviewer, saying the fans are surprised by how his voice sounds:
“Thank you so much, it’s an honor. Really, in all honesty, I would rather listen to Steve Perry than me in Journey.”
Asked more:
I love that Steve gave you such a great shout-out when he was inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. I thought that was sweet.
“So gracious and so generous of him. I cannot believe how kind he was, how welcoming he was when he embraced me, and I’ve embraced him, and I looked him in the eyes – that was honest, I felt it.
“When he looked at me straight in the eye and he told me, ‘It’s amazing to meet you,’ and then thanking me up on the stage, I was literally just 18 feet away from him, behind him.
“And he was thanking me in front of a sold-out crowd in Barclay Arena for my relentless and tireless singing, for the legacy, for the past 10 years.
“It was one of the most glorious moments of my life. It’s like a 35-year-wait and when it happened. I was numb for a while.”
THE BIG QUESTION IS why didn’t they bring Arnel Pineda out to stand next to Steve Perry during the induction ceremony?
Perry has already stated numerous times that he quit singing for Journey thirty years ago and that he has no intention of singing for them again. Steve Perry was the singer who made Journey back in the day and Pineda is making Journey the band it is today.
Hopefully Neal Schon realizes it is what it is.
