Metal Wani’s Jessie David chatted with Dave Mustaine of Megadeth. In 2019 Megadeth will be releasing a new album, going on tour with Ozzy, and preparing for the first ever Megacruise.
For years, Megadeth have been carrying around ideas. Holding onto riffs, crafting ideas and forming vocals that follow. Similar to the way Dystopia came together, Dave is using ideas he formed in the past but adding a heavier dosage. Overall, the plan is to create a follow-up album to Dystopia that is heavier and jammed pack with power. There is no exact release date yet but the idea is to drop the album in 2019. Mustaine hopes to have it out before Megadeth goes on tour with Ozzy. There were rumors it would be out in the spring but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. In the meantime, they will be releasing a walk through the history of Megadeth. Which will be 4 LPs, 35 tracks from their career called “Warheads on Foreheads.

Dave Mustaine said “it’s a great time to be Megadeth” with the tour and new album just around the corner. The upcoming album will be Megadeth’s last record with Universal. When asked how many tracks can be expected Dave said ”The contract with them is 8 songs, the publishing contract is for 11 songs. So if I honor the publishing contract I give them 11 songs. However, the record label now because of streaming wants CDs to contain way more than that.” So the last I heard the guy wanted almost 16 songs.” He goes onto say “That’s a lot, we gave you 15 on the last record, and it felt to me a lot of those songs were wasted.” Whether we get 8 songs or 16, we know they’ll be raw and heavy!
On October 13-18th Megacruise will hit the West Coast in 2019. They will be joined by Anthrax, Testament, Corrosion of Conformity, Devildriver, Metal Church, Doro, John 5, Armored Saint, Beasto Blanco, and Metalachi. Asked if this was the full lineup. Dave mentioned that there are still a few slots to fill, but couldn’t name names at the time. “The whole thing was to do with something different, and I completely believe we’ve accomplished that, we’re going to be the first guys to do a metal maiden voyage on the west coast” Megacruise will be stacked with karaoke, movies, entertainment thought out menus and drinks and Dave Mustaine wants to make sure he’s available all day and all night.
Megadeth has a reputation of changing members through the years. During the interview, Dave touches on how that affects the overall sound of the band and whether or not it has been beneficial. For now, the main focus has been putting out the follow-up album to Dystopia.

During the interview, Mustaine was asked his thoughts on the idea that “Rock is dead” He said “For me, I don’t think rock n roll is dead. I don’t think it’s being manufactured right now, but I think there are a lot of people who are still carrying the torch for rock n roll.”
Next year Megadeth will be releasing their 16th studio album, going on tour with Ozzy and starting the first ever Megacruise. Look out for them!
